    “Newsreel archive British Pathé has uploaded its entire collection of 85,000 historic films, in high resolution, to its YouTube channel. This unprecedented release of vintage news reports and cinemagazines is part of a drive to make the archive more accessible to viewers all over the world. British Pathé was once a dominant feature of the British cinema experience, renowned for first-class reporting and an informative yet uniquely entertaining style. It is now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in existence. Spanning the years from 1896 to 1976, the collection includes footage – not only from Britain, but from around the globe – of major events, famous faces, fashion trends, travel, sport and culture. The archive is particularly strong in its coverage of the First and Second World Wars.”

    The CESBA website provides information for administrators and teachers in the wide variety of adult education programs, including adult credit, PLAR, ESL/FSL, LINC, LBS, international languages, and PSW, as well as alternative education programs for adolescents. The website contains a wide variety of materials that can be downloaded from the Resources section as well as from workshops presented at past CESBA conferences that can be found in the “Events” section.

  • EGALE — Education Resources https://egale.ca/egale-in-action/classroom/ EGALE provides resources and classroom materials related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) equity and inclusive education.
  • Exploring Humanitarian Law http://www.redcross.ca/what-we-do/international-humanitarian-law/tools-for-teachers

    A virtual campus sponsored by  the International Committee of the Red Cross which provides an education program for students 13 to 18 years of age. EHL introduces basic rules and principles of international humanitarian law.  The videos and photo gallery on the site are downloadable. To teach the entire curriculum, teachers would need to complete training workshops that are provided by EHL.

The purpose of these education materials is to raise awareness of homelessness and to inspire individuals, classrooms and schools into action.

    Thousands of NFB titles in every form and genre—from documentary to animation, feature film to interactive—are instantly available online. NFB productions rack up more than 14 million views every year. Now their 21st-century teaching tools are more accessible than ever. Through CAMPUS, educators have an immense bank of innovative teaching resources at their fingertips. NFB guides, playlists and sharing features allow educators to easily tailor lesson plans to their students’ needs.

  • Ontario Council for Technology Education (OCTE) https://www.octe.ca

    This Ontario Council for Technology Education (OCTE) website has a wealth of resources for technological education teachers. It includes a searchable database of lesson plans and safety documents for all ten broad-based technology areas. This portal allows tech teachers to download or post classroom ready curriculum material. There are also links to tutorial and other relevant websites.

  • Ontario Educational Resource Bank http://resources.elearningontario.ca

    The Resource Bank contains more than 3,000 high-quality digital resources - such as lesson plans, student activities, and multimedia objects - for Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Ontario Educational Resource Bank is password protected. Contact your local school board for the username and password.

    Specifically designed to meet Ontario Curriculum expectations for parenting courses, this document provides lesson plans and activities that explore the benefits of a rights-based approach in interactions with children.  The focus of is on children’s rights in settings that involve, caregivers, parents, and teachers.

  • REEL Canada http://www.reelcanada.ca

    REEL Canada offers film festivals, resources, including curriculum and lesson plans, and more for high schools and classes of English language learners. Their three core programs are:

    • “Our Films in our Schools” helps teachers and students across Canada organize festivals of Canadian film in their schools, and integrate Canadian film into the classroom. Students learn about Canadian culture and explore issues surrounding identity and nationhood.

    • “Welcome to Canada” introduces new Canadians to Canadian film and culture through festival events designed specifically for English language learners of all ages.

    • “National Canadian Film Day” is a national day celebrating the amazing wealth, diversity and creativity of Canadian cinema. NCFD is annual one-day event that brings together Canadians across the country to watch Canadian film and learn more, through screenings, discussions, and appreciation events.

    The Art of Managing Your Career's Teacher's Guide is designed to assist instructors/teachers at the high school level in the delivery of basic principles in career planning, development and advancement in the arts and cultural industries. Learning objectives are provided in the introduction to each chapter and lesson-specific learning objectives are appended to each lesson. The 15 lesson plans are tied directly to “The Art of Managing Your Career.”

  • Safe@School http://www.safeatschool.ca This website and the training components that complement it are a joint project of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and Le Centre ontarien de prévention des agressions. Together they have built a multi-faceted bullying prevention project designed to benefit teachers and their fellow school staff members, along with parents, school communities, and, most of all, students.
  • School Resources from Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) https://msf.org.au/school-resources The international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has created an online school resources page where Canadian teachers can find teaching resources about humanitarian issues and the work of MSF, resources about refugees and migrants, teaching materials for French as a second language, as well as educational tool kits for history and geography classes, including instructions of how students can help humanitarian organizations create maps. The tool kits were developed by educational experts in Canada and Europe and are suitable for grades 6 to 12. The website also contains a number of videos, links to multi-media sites, posters and book suggestions that can be useful resources for a number of subjects such as world or social studies, geography and French. The site also contains a section where students can find information and suggestions about how they can get involved? for example by raising awareness, organizing a fundraiser or inviting a speaker from MSF to their school.
  • Teaching African Canadian History http://teachingafricancanadianhistory.weebly.com/

    People of African descent helped shape the cultural, legal, political, military, and athletic history of this country, creating the Canada that we know today. As such, their contributions can be linked to the curriculum throughout the year, not just during Black History Month. This website provides resources to help teachers integrate the rich and diverse history of Black Canadians into the everyday classroom experience of students.

    Chapter 5: Antisemitism - Voices Into Action

    A free cross-curricular online resource to teach secondary students about human rights, prejudice and hatred. The 33 bilingual chapters delve into past and current topics such as: Aboriginal rights and the Residential schools, the Holocaust and other genocides, Antisemitism, Islamophobia, the Black Experience, The Japanese Internment Camps, Chinese Head Tax, Komagata Maru, rights of People with Disabilities, Homophobia, Cyberbullying, civic engagement and more. Register at no charge to gain access to a personalized Dashboard with teaching plans, customizable hand-outs and curriculum links to many secondary courses, such as social sciences, religion, English and the humanities. Developed by a team of 20 writers at OISE-UT, this wealth of information encourages critical thinking with 30 original videos and many actions for students. The program won the Award of Excellence 2016 from the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

    A cross-curricular resource that helps students to examine the complex issues around global disasters and humanitarian relief.  Lessons encourage students to critically examine stereotypes while understanding the factors that contribute to a population’s vulnerability.

  • Workers’ History Museum http://workershistorymuseum.ca

    The museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of working people in the Ottawa area, but many of the resources are applicable throughout Ontario.  In particular, the video, A Struggle to Remember:  Fighting for our Families, chronicles the history of women workers and their supporters as they fought for better family leave provisions.  Many topics will be of interest to those teaching Civics, History, Law, Parenting, and Gender Studies.
